Donating to the ICLT
The Irvine Community Land Trust is a public charity organized under Section 501c3 of the IRS Tax Code (Tax ID #20-4773159). As such, the ICLT is eligible to receive support from government entities, private corporations and individuals. Contributions from corporations and individuals may qualify for favorable tax treatment as income tax deductions. Contributions from builders and developers can in some cases be treated as business expenses when used to fulfill inclusionary requirements.
There are many ways to donate to the ICLT. The contribution of land, improved or unimproved, to the Trust is the most common. However, the ICLT can also accept gifts other than land, big or small, including a variety of other assets. The ICLT will work with potential donors to determine a giving strategy which best fits their interests and needs.
For individuals, the gift of cash, real property or securities should be considered as a part of a long term financial plan and should be first discussed with tax advisors and family attorneys. Understanding the right tax strategy can help minimize tax obligations and maximize the benefits to individuals, their families, and to the charities they support.
